{Gratitude Day 17}

Today I am grateful that it was a Friday night at 6:30 pm and I had my jammies on and was at home.  We had been running around ALL DAY LONG today and haven't been here since this morning.  When we walked through the door, I couldn't wait to throw my jammies on!!  I have been running around since we got home....trying to get all packed up and ready to leave for Utah tomorrow.....but at least I got to be at HOME!!  I love that our Friday nights are filled with getting things done, spending time with the kids, running errands, lounging around and watching TV!!  So much better than what Friday nights were like in high school and college!!  I prefer this life MUCH MUCH more!!  I am such a home body and am so grateful for a cozy home.  There is nowhere I would rather be than my home.  And although I wish the above picture was my home....and my fireplace....and my painted walls (I am a little bit envious of painted walls these days....the white walls at our house are getting old....ahhh, the joys of renting), but it is not....we didn't have a fire in the fireplace!!  It's a good thing....cuz if we did, I would've gotten NOTHING done and we wouldn't have been going on vacation tomorrow!!  So thank goodness for that!!  :)

{Gratitude Day 16}

I have been begging Jeremiah all week to bring the bins of Christmas decorations inside...we are headed to Utah on Saturday for a week and I want the decorations up when we walk through the door after Thanksgiving weekend!!.  He thinks it is ridiculous to put Christmas decorations up this early.  The way I see it, there is only 39 days til Christmas...we will be gone for 7 of them....and you can't get enough of Christmas!  Finally, last night he begrudgingly brought all the bins in.  When Ayden and Zoe woke up this morning, they were SO EXCITED to see all the decorations!!  So at 7 am, we busted out the Christmas music and started unpacking the bins!!  This year was a little tricky being in a new place and trying to find places for all of our decorations!  We had to do some major rearranging of furniture to fit the tree, but I'm happy to say that we got it all done today....even tho it took ALL day and the house was a disaster 90% of the day!  We are now living in a winter wonderland and the kids are super excited!  As I was putting up decorations today, I realized how grateful I am to have a new baby at Christmas!!!  He is such a gift and I am so grateful to have him in our family!!!  I know that this is going to be our best Christmas yet....as far as I'm concerned, I don't need any gifts.....our gift came 2 months early this year!!!  :)

{Gratitude Day 15}

Today I am grateful for the sound of "cooing" that is going on at my house!!  Maddix just discovered his voice and I love watching him open his mouth and wait for a sound to come out!!  And then when he says "ah goo"....I say "ah goo" back and wait.....he says it again!!  I love these little conversations and hearing that sweet little voice!!

Now I just need to work on that smile....the "I smiled on purpose" smile!!  He does lots of smiling in his sleep, but I want the one where he smiles right to my face....because he is happy!!  I remember that Ayden and Zoe started smiling around 5 or 6 weeks, so I am waiting and waiting for Maddix!!  :)  I am just dying to see those dimples in action....every single day!!  Can't wait!!

{Gratitude Day 14}

We busted out the Christmas music today!  This is actually a little late for us....I usually start listening right after Halloween, but this year all these holidays are just creeping up on me!!  It might have something to do with having a newborn in the house, but I better get a grip or Thanksgiving and Christmas will be gone in the blink of an eye!!
It was the kids idea to get Christmas music going.....and they didn't have to ask me twice!!  So we turned on our kids Christmas CD and haven't turned it off.....the kids love having it play in the background when they play, eat, color, get dressed, etc!  So fun!!  I must have rubbed off on him these past couple years!!  :)

So today I am grateful for the upcoming holidays!!  I LOVE Christmas music and everything that comes with it!!  The kids have started cutting pictures out of all the toy catalogs of what they want.....their lists are getting long!!  I love this time of year when we can go to the store and all I have to say when the kids ask beg for new toys is, "maybe you will get it for Christmas"!!!  And that is the end of the begging!!  I can't believe Christmas is less than 6 weeks away....I am ready to jump on for the busy and wild ride that will take us to the New Year!!!  :)

{Gratitude Day 13}

I am behind...this is my gratitude for yesterday!  I am grateful that I am a member of the best church!!  :)  As I was rushing around to get my family ready for church yesterday.....and really rushing around since it was Maddix's first time at church, I realized how lucky I am to be going to church with my amazing family!  I cannot imagine my life....or my family....without it!!  We don't just go to church on Sunday....we live it every day.  It is who we are.  It is what we believe.  It is what we live.  It is what we teach.  It is what we strive to be.  I am so grateful that I will be with my cute family for eternity.....all because we started out our marriage here.....

And as if going to the temple isn't amazing enough as a husband and wife, we got to take Ayden there to be sealed to us for time and eternity.....

And then again to be sealed to Zoe.....

And in a few short months, we will be lucky enough to go once again to have Maddix sealed to us!!  That is one of my favorite things about adoption....and the thing I look forward to the most.....

What a lucky girl I am to have these 3 cuties (plus 1) in my life!!  :)

{Gratitude Day 12}

When you become a Mom, all of your selfishness gets thrown out the window.....it's no longer all about you.....being selfish is no longer an option.  Shopping has always been one of my favorite things to do (but only when I have money to buy something....I hate just browsing)!  When I was single, I worked to shop.  I spent every penny of my paychecks on clothes.  I was obsessed with having new clothes....so obsessed that I would buy new clothes and "save" them....meaning I would let them sit in my closet with tags on them for sometimes months before wearing them!  I love wearing new outfits...and getting compliments on them!  Now that I am a Mom, I feel just as excited to shop for my kid's clothes.  I love getting them new clothes....and getting compliments on them!!  :)

But today, I got to go on a shopping spree for MYSELF!!!  I went to the mall this afternoon by myself (well, Maddix was with me, but he slept and cooperated almost the entire time that it felt like I was by myself)!  I got to spend all my birthday money and was SO excited to get 2 new pairs of skinny jeans, 4 new shirts and a new scarf!!!  YAY!!  I seriously haven't gotten that many new clothes in FOREVER!!!  I am so excited!!  As I was walking around Nordstrom today, I was reminded of my younger years when I used to take a vacation day for the Nordstrom sales....I would hit all 3 malls that were within 30 minutes of my house to spend ALL my money on new clothes!!  Those were the days!!

I am grateful for the 3 hours that I got to get away and be selfish for a minute!!  It was fun to be selfish, but reality set in when Maddix got hungry and my shopping spree was over.  And at that moment, I sat down and fed my sweet boy.....and got compliments on what a cute boy he is.....and felt complete and utter gratitude when a stranger asked me "Is this your first baby?" and I replied, "No, my 3rd"!!!  I love saying that!!  :)  And then I got to come home and try on all my new clothes for my sweet girly girl as she "oohed" and "aahed" over it all and said how cute everything was!!  I have so much to be thankful for!!

{Gratitude Day 10}

Today I am grateful for a "no school" day!!!  YAY!!  Ayden and Zoe were both off today and tomorrow for Veteran's Day!!  I remember when I used to think that it was easier to send the kids off to school!!  I never understood the Mom's that looked forward to summer vacation....after all, isn't life easier when your kids are at school and you can get things done?!?!  Well, I have quickly realized that life is definitely easier when there is no school and we can wake up in the morning and not be rushed to get out the door to get someone to school and then get someone else to school and pack lunches and set out school clothes and do homework and make sure backpacks don't get left behind and load a baby in and out of the car seat 8 times (which is what Tuesdays and Thursdays consist of when Ayden and Zoe BOTH have school)!!  This morning was so nice!  It was relaxing!  I woke up feeling refreshed.....mostly because my Mom spent the night with us last night and woke up with Maddix for his 2:30 am feeding to let me and Jeremiah sleep.....I am grateful for that!!  And I am grateful that Maddix made it from 9:30 pm to 2:30 am without eating....that means he only woke once last night!!  That is definitely something to be grateful for!!

I am grateful for the computer that entertained Ayden and Zoe enough for me this morning to be able to get our dinner in the crockpot before 10 am!!  I am grateful for a homemade meal (since those are few and far between these days)!!

We went and met friends at the park this morning!!  This is something we don't get to do as much anymore since it's harder to do things like this with school going on!  The kids played and played and played......and the Moms talked and talked and talked!!  :)  And then we went to McDonald's for lunch and some more playtime!!  That took up a good 4 1/2 hours of our day....so I am grateful for that!!   And when we came home in the afternoon, I told the kids it was jammie time and movie time!!  Thank goodness for Netflix!!  Zoe watched girly movies downstairs and Ayden watched manly movies upstairs!!  I am grateful for movie days....and for gloomy cloudy cool days that make me feel less guilty about plopping my kids in front of the TV for movie days....just to give me a minute to breathe!!

I am again grateful for a nice home cooked meal!!  Mmmm!!!!  I am grateful that it gets dark so early so that our kids can be in bed by 7 pm....especially since one of them woke up on the wrong side of the bed today and was rather grumpy (Ayden)!!  I am grateful for a hubby that I have to lounge on the couch with and get caught up on all of our recorded TV shows!!  And last but not least, I am grateful for the delicious bowl of ice cream that I let myself indulge in.....just because it has been one of those weeks!!

I am grateful for days like today when I have a lot of things to be grateful for!!

{Gratitude Day 9}

I am grateful that I could have a Mommy/Daughter day today!!  And on top of that, I am one lucky girl cuz I got to be the Mommy AND the daughter today!!!  :)  My mom, Zoe and I went to our very own tea party....which is becoming our new holiday tradition since we went last year also!!  We had a blast!  I love tea party food....all the cute little sandwiches, quiche, scones, homemade soup, desserts.....Mmmmm!!!  I'm not sure what is more fun.....having tea or just watching Zoe think she died and went to heaven!  I think that is what my mom and I love most about it!!  She is such a perfect girly girl to go to a tea place!!  They have a "Princess Tea Party" for little girls and a "Dinosaur Tea Party" for little boys!!  We joked saying next time we should bring Ayden with us....but then we decided that we weren't sure it was the right place for a busy little boy!!  I'm sure at least one thing would be broken before we left!!  Zoe on the other hand is so dainty and so careful and meticulous about everything....she fits in perfectly at a tea house....and it is so fun to watch her in action!!!
We loved that her pink polka dot dress matched her pink polka dot tea cup....

This is our favorite seat in the restaurant.....the perfect place for a princess.....

Zoe and Grammy Con.....

Cheeeeeeesssseeee...................

Zoe didn't put the cream that came with her scone on the scone.....she just ate it with a spoon.....

And she was in charge of her very own teapot that had pink lemonade in it!!  She drank the whole pot.....I think just because she liked pouring it so much....

What a lucky girl I am to have such a special day with 2 of the favorite girlies in my life!!!  :)

{Gratitude Day 8}

What is not to love about your one and only baby girl?!?!  Today I am grateful for Zoe!!  Zoe is the "specialist" to me because she is the little girl that a Mommy always wants!  And what is not to love about that face?!?!  There are many things that I love about Zoe....I love that she puts true meaning to the phrases "sugar and spice" and "sweet and sour"!!  She definitely has just as much spice and sour in her as she does sugar and sweet....and I love that!!  Probably because I secretly know that she is just like me!!

I love having a little girl!  I love that Zoe is such a girly girl and that she lives and dreams for girly things.  She is such a good little Mommy's helper and does so much to help me with Maddix during the day when Ayden is at school!  She is my diaper and wipes fetcher and she always grabs a bag when we have a poopy diaper we're dealing with....I love that she cringes at gross things.....like poopy diapers or blood or someones owiee....she would be a really bad nurse!!  Ever since Maddix was born, Zoe has taken on a new special role with her baby dolls!  She really does love being a "Mommy" and she talks all the time about how when she grows up she wants to be a "Mommy firefighter"!!  HAHA!!  I don't know where she got the firefighter thing from?!?!?

She is so smart and such a fast learner.....she picks up on stuff so quickly!  She is such a good friend to Ayden (most of the time) and they love playing together!!  I love to watch them play and see her sweetness come out when she plays with him and other friends.  I love that she is my little helper in everything and always wants to be there to "help" me make dinner....or breakfast....or lunches....or clean the dishes....or clean the bathrooms.....whatever!!  She just loves to help!  And I love that she is my little side kick and wants to do everything I am doing!

I love to hug and snuggle Zoe and I take every chance I get to take advantage of the times she wants to hug and snuggle me!!  I love that I am the one that gets to put her to bed every night and read a fun girly princess book or Fancy Nancy!  I love that we get to shop together and that she loves and appreciates cute clothes as much as I do!!  I love that she cares what she wears every day and always wants to wear a dress (but this is sometimes irritating too when sometimes I just want her to wear play clothes)....such a fashionista!

I love my little Zoe!  I am grateful that I have been blessed with a little girl!  I cannot imagine my life without a little girl to share all the girly things with!  I know as she gets older, we are going to have so much fun together....and I can't wait for those times!!

{LooK hOw mUcH i'Ve grOwn}

I plan on doing my traditional "carseat" pics with Maddix that I have also done with Ayden and Zoe!  I love doing this so I can see just how much they grow each month!  I now only have 2 pics to compare so far with Maddix.....one was taken at 4 days old and one was taken at 1 month old, but I CANNOT believe how much he has changed already!!!  When I look at the first picture, he is such a scrawny little tiny thing!!

Maddix ~ 4 days old.....

And when I look at him at 1 month old, I see a totally different baby!! He is totally filling out these days!  He is getting so fat and chubby and I love it!  Chubby babies are the best!!  He is still tiny in a way....he is 8.5 lbs at 1 month....and when I looked back at Ayden's book, I saw that he was 10.5 lbs at 1 month!  But I love that this picture below shows Maddix's chubby face and cheeks....and the pot belly that he is growing!!  :)  He is definitely a good eater!  I also think it's funny that in both of these pictures, he is looking up at the same thing....not sure what he sees, but funny that he is looking in the same direction on both pictures!!

Maddix ~ 1 month old.....

After seeing how much he has changed in 1 month, I can't wait to see what he looks like at 2 months!!  :)

{Gratitude Day 7}

Today I am grateful for my favorite little 5 year old boy!  Ayden knows that he is the "specialist" because he is my first baby!!  (And Zoe is the "specialist" cuz she is my girl....and Maddix is the "specialist" cuz he is our new baby)!  There are so many things that I love about Ayden.  I could really go on and on and on about him.  But the thing I love about him the most is that he is seriously a sweet, tender hearted person.  He is a peacemaker....he wants everyone to get along and he doesn't want to disappoint anyone.  He is never the kid that would be mean to another kid.  He is the kid that stops dead in his tracks on the soccer field if he sees another kid get hurt....just to run over and make sure they are ok.  He is the kid that will pick up his sister's mess if he knows she is going to get in trouble for not doing it.  He is the kid that will share whatever he has with you....just because it's a nice thing to do.  He is the kid that doesn't understand when someone is mean to him or hurts his feelings.....cuz you're just not supposed to be like that to people.  He is the kid that will be the first to say "I'm sorry" if he does something wrong or breaks something or hurts your feelings.  He is the kid that will drop whatever he is doing when he hears his baby brother cry to run over and talk to him or give him a binky.  All of these things make him my "specialist"!!

Ayden didn't go to school today cuz he has a cough, so he got to hang out with Mommy all day!  We were going to Target and while we waited at a light to turn towards the parking lot, across the street, Ayden saw a Target shopping cart sitting on the sidewalk with noone around it.  He couldn't understand why someone would take a Target cart so far away from the store.  When we were checking out at the register, he told the worker in his very animated way of speaking, "Ummm.....one of your carts is like over there...across the street....like I think that a robber came and took your cart and then left it over there...instead of bringing it back to the store....like I don't know why they did that, but they did"!!  HAHA!!  It was so funny!!  We went to Target in search for a lego set that Ayden wanted to buy with his own money.  They were all sold out, so he also told the worker about that and asked when they were going to be getting more in.  The worker told him probably tomorrow and so he said, "Ok, well then I will be back tomorrow to get one"!  I love that he is not afraid to talk to people....and that he is so social and outgoing!  I hope he continues to be that way as he gets older!  As we were leaving Target and driving to our next destination, Costco, Ayden told me that he wanted to go to college at BYU.  He said he wanted to play on the football and basketball team there.  He asked me if you have to "sign up" to go there (haha....if college was only that easy that you just had to SIGN UP to go there...haha)!  I told him that it is a hard school to go to and that he would have to be a very good student and get good grades and listen to his teachers and be very smart to go there.  He then informed me that he DOES listen to his teachers and that he is smart cuz they do counting at school.....and they do "more thans and less thans" (adding and subtracting) and that he knows how to do that.  So he said, "So I am smart, so I can go to BYU soon, right?"  Cute kid....I love that he has such high goals!!  :)

He is a great kid.  He is a great boy.  I am so glad that I get to be his Mom.  I know that he is going to be such a special dad and husband when he gets older.  I can't wait to see all that he accomplishes and achieves in his life.

I am so grateful for my little Ayden!!

{hAppY oNe mOnTh}

Maddix, you are 1 month old today!!  I seriously cannot believe it's only been a month that we have had you...in ways it seems like you have been in our family forever!!  We still feel so lucky to have you and are grateful every day!!  I really cannot imagine our lives or our family without you!  It's funny that you don't realize how badly you needed something until you have it!!  Or does the saying go that you don't realize how much you wanted something until it is gone?!?!  Well, in our case, we didn't realize how happy and great our lives would be with a 3rd child....until you were here!

It is definitely an adjustment to have #3.....but most of the adjustments are all positive and fun!!  For example, I love that we have an extra body to lug around....and that I have 2 little munchkins to keep me company when Ayden is at school.....and it's also funny to try to figure out where to put my groceries in the shopping cart at Costco when I have Ayden and Zoe in the front seats and Maddix's carseat in the cart section.....and it's also fun to juggle Maddix back and forth with Jeremiah when we are trying to get Ayden and Zoe ready for bed or ready to leave the house....it's fun to go to a restaurant and say "Party of 5".....but most of all, it is SO MUCH FUN having a newborn in the house again!!  I love just sitting and snuggling and holding and feeding and staring at the little guy!!  It's funny how quickly you forget how tiny they are!!  And how fast they grow!!  I have always had a really hard time enjoying the moment because I am always looking so far into the future or for the next "stage"!  It is the planner in me!!  In some ways, I am looking forward to watching Maddix grow and change and become a big guy, but at the same time, I am really enjoying every minute of him being little!!  I never want to look back and regret not enjoying this time!!  And I know how lucky I am to be able to stay at home and be able to spend my days and nights with my kids!

The hardest adjustment is getting out of the house on time for anything!!  Getting 3 bodies (plus my own) ready for the day is quite a challenge!!  Thank heavens for afternoon kindergarten that doesn't start until 10:30!! I don't know what we would do if we had school start at 7:45 am every day!!  Makes me sweat just thinking about it!!  Luckily I am a planner because I usually start planning the night before for how to make the next day run smoothly!!  :)

As we have all been adjust to the changes, Maddix is just busy growing, eating, sleeping and pooping.....oh and also spitting up a lot!1  Yep, he is a spitter!!  Just like Zoe was!!  This pretty much means that he wears 3 or 4 different outfits a day and I do laundry all the time!!  It's a good thing that laundry is one of my favorite chores!!  :)  But he is definitely not lacking in the growth department!  He is about 8.5 lbs now and he seems huge to us, even though people are always commenting how tiny he is!  He has grown a lot and is filling out....especially in his chubby little face!  It is still funny that at 1 month, he is the same size Ayden was when he was born!  He is eating 3 oz every 3 hours right now....we have had a hard time finding the right formula for him and have had to switch  few times, but we hope we have the right one now!!  He is a little oinker and would eat more if we let him!  We did bump him up to 4 oz for about a week, but the more we give him, the more he spits.....so 3 oz is the happy medium!!  I have been trying to do Babywise and have been getting him on a eat/awake/sleep schedule every 3 hours!  It is crazy and stressful at times, but I know it is so worth it to have him on a schedule where his naps fit in with all of our running around!!  He goes to bed around 8 or 8:30 pm each night and is still waking up twice in the night....around 1 am and 4 am!  Jeremiah and I each take a shift, so at least neither of us are exhausted....and he eats fast and goes right back to sleep!  He is either up for good early...around 6 am or could sleep forever until 8 am!!  Again, we are still working on that schedule!!  :)

For the most part (except when he has a tummy ache from spitting up), Maddix is the happiest, most content baby!!  He is very easy going and has adjusted to our crazy lives very quickly!!  He is used to all the noise and the commotion going on around him!  He has definitely started to recognize his family.....I notice that when he is worked up and crying, I can hold him and soothe him very quickly.  He loves Jeremiah's voice and is always turning his head to find him when he hears him talk!  He is also starting to recognize Ayden and Zoe's voices and faces!!  We haven't been able to get a direct smile out of him, but we have definitely seen him flash his huge dimples here and there....he smiles a ton in his sleep!!  :)

He has started to find his voice.....he has started making "coo-ing" sounds, which I love!  He makes the sweetest little sounds!  And speaking of sounds, he is a MAJOR grunter!!  He grunts all day long....especially in his sleep!!  He is also a snorter!! It is funny!!  He is so strong and has been holding his head up since the day he was born!  Therefore he doesn't mind tummy time.....especially when Ayden gets on the floor to "play" with him!!
He loves:  his binky, being swaddled, his bottles, taking baths, being in his carseat and stroller, hearing Daddy's voice, having Mommy sing "Rain Drops on Roses" and "You Are My Sunshine", his swing, laying on his belly

He hates:  having his diaper changed, when he gets to the end of his bottle

We are so grateful to have you in our lives....I still catch myself pinching myself to see if it is really real.....if you are really here to stay!!  Life just seems to perfect with you here!!  You are a perfect fit to our family and we have had the best month with you!!  Can't wait to continue watching you grow!!  We love you Maddix!!

{Gratitude Day 6}

I am grateful for daylight savings time.  It's kind of silly....I still don't really get why we do it....and sometimes I wish I lived in Arizona and never had to change the clocks!!  But at the same time, I am SO grateful for that extra hour of sleep.....and I love more than anything that it starts getting dark around 5:00 pm!!  But I also think that changing the clocks back is just pure torture when you have young kids....especially when you have a 1 month old that you have worked so hard for 2 weeks to get onto a schedule that you like!!  Now that all gets bumped up 1 hour!!  And it was kind of crazy when Ayden was up for good this morning at 5 am ready for the day!!  But at least it will just take a few days and we will hopefully get everyone adjusted back to our old schedule!!  I love this time of year!!

I am also grateful that tonight we got to have family over and all the cousins got to finally meet Maddix!!  Nothing better than spending Sundays with families!!!  <3

The Next Kristen Armstrong...only cuter (no relation to Lance)

This is another guest blog by Jeremiah. I only blog about the most important developments in the Smith family. These impotant developmets always pertain to bicycling of course. (any other subject isn't really blog worthy, right?) Here is the blog post about when Ayden learned how to ride a bike for the first time.....he was 2 weeks younger than Zoe is now. As with when Ayden learned to ride a bike, this date (11/5/2011) will be a historical date to remember. I originally had no hope for athletisism out of Zoe. She has always played the helpless card and she always uses phrases like "I can't" and "it's too hard" whenever she is challenged, but today with the help of a bit of reverse psychology and a mountain of positive reinforcement, I was able to to get Zoe to ride a bike without training wheels. Today has given me new hope that Zoe has some athletic potential, she just hides it under layers of cute, cuddly helplessness.

When Zoe wins the Time Trail, and Road Race in the 2032 Olympics this date will go down into history books.....although...because of her slight tendency towards laziness, she may end up being a downhill mountain biker...nonetheless mark your calendars for the 2032 summer Olympics and watch for my little cutie pie, Zoe.

{Gratitude Day 5}

I am grateful today for the most patient husband.  When I think about patience, I know exactly why Jeremiah and I ended up together.....I have none, he has a ton (well, most of the time)!!  When it comes to dealing with our kids, he is one of the most patient people I know!  Especially when it comes to dealing with Zoe.  Zoe and I are pretty much twins.....30 years apart.  I obviously don't remember, but everyone in my family reminds me often what a difficult child I was....strong willed, stubborn, hard headed, always right.....you name it....I was it!!  :)  Sweet little Zoe Grace is the same way!  My mom laughs.....she always wanted me to see what it felt like to raise someone like me!!  Thanks Mom.....I get it now!!!  :)

But back to my patient husband!!!  He is the one and only person that has the patience to deal with Zoe when she has one of her little fits.  And today, he taught her how to ride a bike without training wheels!!!  That is a HUGE accomplishment considering this girl has NEVER really ridden a bike her entire life!!  She has a little princess trike that she has always whined about being too hard to ride!  And when Zoe gets something in her head.....that is the end of it!  So this bike that was too hard to ride made her whine a lot....and never want to try....cuz it was just TOO HARD!!  We really thought she might never ride a bike in her life!!!  But since Jeremiah eats, sleeps and breathes bicycles, he couldn't let that happen!  We got home from Ayden's soccer game today, I came inside to put Maddix down for a nap and made use of the quiet time by cleaning my bathrooms!!  Ayden came in to get me and said "Zoe learned how to ride her bike.....come see"!!  I didn't believe him.....and even after I saw it with my own eyes, I STILL didn't believe it!!  Today was the first day they had ever practiced!!  She picked it up so fast!  But I know that Jeremiah had to have some SERIOUS patience to teach her....I could've never done it!!

I am grateful for him.....and grateful that we balance each other out so well!!  Where I lack, he makes up for it.....and vice versa!  We are a great team!!  And I am grateful to have him as my teammate!!!

Daddy and Zoe.....this little girl would do anything for her Daddy!!!

And she's off.....

Here is Ayden's 1st bike that he got when he was just 2 years old!!  His very own Specialized to match Daddy's!!  Well, we didn't want this nice expensive bike to go to waste, so Jeremiah decided to paint it pink for Zoe!!  She LOVED it and now we will have to paint it back to blue in a couple years when Maddix is ready to ride bikes!!  :)

Gotta love those knee pads.....safety first.....  :)

Here is a little video proof for the grandparents that are in disbelief also!!  :)

{Gratitude Day 4}

Today I am grateful that it finally felt like fall!!  It rained.....it was 50 degrees most of the day....brrrrr.....I got to wear my boots for the first time this year!!  The only thing that could've made the day better is if I was able to stay home all day in my jammies with a blankie and a fire in the fireplace enjoying my burning candles!!  Bummer.....too bad we were gone ALL DAY LONG!!!  But, YAY for fall finally coming.....I hope it is here to stay!!  :)

I can't believe that this little guy is 4 weeks today!!  Seriously.....he's already been in our lives for 4 weeks?!?!  WOW!!!  I can't decide if he is considered a month old today....or just 4 weeks!?!?!  So I am thinking he is just 4 weeks today and on Sunday the 6th, when he is 1 month old, I will get to do a big 1 month post with lots of pics and all the fun new things he is doing!!  :)  For now, just a cute picture to show what a chub-a-lub he is becoming!!  I love his chubby little face!!!

I tried putting him in the exersaucer today!!  I know that he is still way too small since he can't completely hold his head.....but I wanted to try and I was right there to help him hold his head up....which is why the blanket is also stuffed in there!!  Well, he was entertained with the toys for half a second.....and then fell fast asleep!!  :)  He always seems to fall asleep in situations that I think are going to be stressful for him.....for example his first bath....and now the first time in the exersaucer!!  I guess a growing boy just needs his rest!!  :)

{Gratitude Day 3}

I am grateful for the 20 minutes a day that I have to COMPLETELY relax!!  A couple months ago, I started "reading time" with Ayden and Zoe.  We do this almost every day when Ayden gets home from school.  The kids grab a pile of books, they plop themselves on the couch, I grab a magazine (or recently my "What to Expect the First Year" book) and plop myself on the couch.  No cell phones or laptops allowed (yes, this rule is mostly for Mommy)......just reading!!!  I tell the kids that this is our library time, so it has to be VERY quiet!!  No talking allowed (except if they are reading their book out loud, they can do that quietly)!!  We set the timer for 20 minutes and they have to "read" for 20 straight minutes until the timer goes off!!  We started off a few months ago just going 5 minutes....and that was pretty much torture!!  We slowly increased the time and now after 20 minutes, at least one of them usually begs me to keep reading time going!!  YAY!!  It has literally been the greatest parenting thing I have ever implemented!!  It is the MOST relaxing 20 minutes of my day!  I really love and look forward to the time to just sit.....in peace and (mostly) quiet.....to read and not have my head in front of some technological device.  And I love that my kids have a passion for reading!!  Ayden is just starting to really get the hang of all his sight words, so he is having fun being able to read a lot of the words on the page!!  And Zoe will "read" an entire book by looking at the pictures and "telling" the story in her own words!!   I'm grateful for good old fashioned reading and 20 minutes a day of pure relaxation!!  :)

{Gratitude Day 2}

This happened today.....

.....right in the middle of me getting ready to load Maddix into the stroller to go pick up Ayden at school (we were already running a little bit late).....and while Zoe was begging me for lunch (oops....was it really 1:45 pm and we hadn't had lunch yet?!?!)!   Maddix was screaming!  I got poop ALL over my hands!!  It was on Maddix's hands!  It got on 3 different blankets, a little bit on my couch and some on the rug!  Did I mention that Maddix was screaming!?!?  Zoe was dry heaving.....not sure if it was the sight or the smell that was making her sick!?!?!  I was right there with her.....not sure if it was the sight, the smell or the mushy poo that I felt between my fingers?!?  Maybe if I didn't take the time to take a picture of it, it wouldn't have gotten even more all over the place!!  HA!!  But I needed the picture as proof to show Jeremiah that he was in charge of the next few poopy diapers!!  :)

Zoe and I took a deep breath and we practiced team work to get him all cleaned up!  We are such a good team...she is becoming such a great helper!  :)  I picked Maddix up, snuggled him and he stopped crying!!  I gave him a kiss and a smile came upon my face!  I realized that there is nowhere else I would rather be at this moment.  There wasn't too much time to marvel in this moment tho....Zoe, Maddix and I ran to the school....just in time for Ayden's Kindergarten door to open and for him to see us waiting for him....as if we had been waiting for 10 minutes!

Nowhere else I would rather be......NOWHERE!!!  This is EXACTLY where I am supposed to be....this is EXACTLY what I am supposed to be doing....and this is EXACTLY who I am supposed to be doing it with!!  I love my life.  I love being a Mommy.  I am living my dream EVERY. SINGLE. DAY!!!
  And how could I not be grateful for that?!?!!?

{Gratitude Day 1}

It is November 1st. For the past 2 years, during the month of November, I have kept a gratitude journal on my blog. It has been such a great experience to think about all the things that I am grateful for!  I really have been looking forward to this for the past couple weeks since I knew November was right around the corner!!  I love keeping this "journal" on my blog because it makes me more accountable....since if I was to just write this on paper every day, I would probably quit by day 5!!  If you want to play along, then for each day in the month of November, you are supposed to focus on what you are grateful for and write it down. This is really good for someone like me that tends to lean more towards the negative side of things. I love going throughout my day and always being on the lookout for things that make me happy and that I am thankful for. I have had so much fun looking at what I have been grateful for over the past 2 years.....I know I will have a positive experience with it again this year. So if you are feeling like the glass is half empty, give it a try. I promise it will change your attitude around!! :)

I am really grateful for the moments that are sometimes few and far between when you actually realize that your kids listen to what you say....and "get it"!!  With our latest adoption recently happening....and the fact that I am out and about with a newborn baby....and obviously do not look like I just gave birth to a baby.....we get all kinds of questions and comments presented to us about adoption, having kids, and everything in between!!  Most of the comments are great......most people agree with us about what an amazing thing adoption is....that it is such a blessing.....they tell us that we are lucky to have our kids in our lives and they are lucky to have us......that adoption is such a commendable thing to do.....the list goes on and on!!  On the same hand, we get the comments where we literally say under our breathe...."I cannot believe that person just had the nerve to say that to us"!!  HAHA!!  It really does make me laugh!!  I probably would've said some of the same things before adoption was my life!  I don't blame these comments on ignorant people....just think they are uneducated on the subject...that's all!!  :)  In the last couple days, here are a few that we have heard:
-Jeremiah told someone we just adopted a baby....they asked him why we "had to" adopt and Jeremiah said we couldn't have kids of our own!  The guy then asked "who's fault is it??  and what is the problem??"  Wow.....now that is getting personal!!

-Since Maddix has joined our family, we get a lot of this one....."So you just adopted him, but Ayden and Zoe are your own, right??"  HAHA!!!  We kind of think that they are all "ours"!!!  :)

-Today someone asked me straight up....."When are you going to bear children yourself???"  LOL!!!  My jaw kinda dropped and I felt like telling the guy that asked me that, "Oh, maybe tomorrow or the next day....we haven't decided yet!"  DUH!!!

Anyways, this brings me to my point!!  Right before Maddix was born, we were at a church thing and ran into a VERY pregnant lady that we didn't know.  Ayden and Zoe were with me as I sat next to the pregnant lady.  Ayden asked her "Does your baby kick you really hard??"  (right before that, Jayci had let him feel Maddix kicking in her belly....so he wondered if the lady felt the same thing)!  The pregnant lady said "Yes, but she is sleeping right now."  Then she went on to ask Ayden......"Do you remember when your Mommy had your baby sister in her tummy.....did you feel her kicking a lot??"  There was a pause.....Ayden didn't say anything right away.....I sat there quiet also waiting to see how he would answer this question!!!  We talk about adoption and birth moms ALL THE TIME in our home, but the kids have never been so directly asked a question about it.  And then came Ayden's response.....which he blurted out so matter of factly....."Oh, we weren't in our Mommy's tummy.....my sister and I are both adopted"!!!!  Yay!!!  I could've almost cried right then and there!!!  And then little Zoe (who we think doesn't hear or listen to ANYTHING we say) chimed in with "But we have birth moms and we were in their tummies before we were born"!!!  Ahhhhh.......and once again, I smiled!!  I was SO PROUD of them!!  The pregnant girl acted like she wanted to crawl into a shell.....like she had just opened up a can of worms......but me, I was ecstatic!!!  I realized right then and there that what Jeremiah and I have taught the kids about adoption and where they came from and how they joined our family had sunken in!!  Our kids KNOW how special they are!!  They KNOW we are so lucky to be a family!!  They KNOW that they are no different than anyone else....and that there is nothing "weird" about the way they came into a family......it is just our way!!  There is no doubt in my mind that Maddix will feel the same way!!  It was all they KNOW!!  It is what we love!  And it is our "normal"!!!  I am so grateful that my kids feel that way and hope they always do!!
