{wHeRe aRe yOu....fAll?}

I often look back at pictures one, two, three years ago to see what we were doing on a certain day. Today I looked back at pictures to see what we were doing in mid-September and found this picture from two years ago. I love it because although I do NOT miss the days in Utah of summer coming to an end and dreading the winter that will soon follow, I do miss these chilly, fall days....when in mid-September Ayden had to go outside all bundled up with his sweater, vest and beanie! (Not sure why he and Jeremiah have these looks on their faces....they look really irritated with me for taking a picture!! LOL!)

And here we are two years later, sweating in 95 degree weather!! Heat, heat, go away....come back again....next Spring!!! I would much rather be getting out the fall clothes and bundling up than having to run the A/C to keep from melting! I'm sure I won't be complaining come mid-December, but right now, I just want candy corn, football games, jeans and sweaters, changing leaves, a chill in the air, Halloween costumes, homemade soup for dinner, extra blankets to sleep with, raindy days, and to watch my favorite new fall shows in front of the fireplace!! That all sounds so nice....maybe in a couple weeks, California will decide it is time for fall!

Yesterday was Ayden's first day of preschool!!! We have been looking forward to this day for oh so long!! He is such a busy body and a typical boy, so he gets bored so easily and needs to be entertained 24/7! I knew preschool would be perfect for him to get some interaction with other kids and learn along the way!! =) This is a time when I wished we still lived in Utah so I could pay someone the small amount that I charged people when I taught preschool! I can't believe how much preschool costs in California, but I know it will be worth it because he had a great day yesterday!!

Ayden has been getting excited about going to school for a while, but the excitement level skyrocketed on Saturday when we bought him a lunch box! All of a sudden, I think it hit him that he REALLY was going to school soon! Ever since Saturday, he has carried around his Spiderman lunch box with him everywhere we go! He took it out to dinner with us on Saturday night, to church on Sunday, to the grocery store, everywhere!!

On Monday night, we got all ready.....clothes set out, backpack ready, lunchbox out....we were set!! I had to put a note in his lunch box for his first day! All growing up, I remember getting little love notes in my lunch from my mom. They were always written on a napkin and were short and sweet! I remember being TOTALLY embarrassed about it....I remember hiding the napkin under the table while I took a quick peek to see what it said! Looking back, I realize what a lucky girl I was to have a mom that cared that much.....I want my kids to feel the same way when they are 30 years old and look back on their experiences....so we are starting with notes in the lunches!! =)

On Tuesday morning, he woke up and was ready to go to school!! Oh darn.....I had to break it to him that he didn't go to school until 12:30 pm!! When Jeremiah left for work, Ayden got his backpack on & lunch box ready to go outside to wait for the bus.....still in his jammies!! Poor kid....once again, I had to break his heart and tell him that he wasn't going to be riding the bus to school (not sure where he got the idea he was going to have to ride the bus to school)! He was sad!

Zoe was sad that she didn't get to have a backpack and a new lunch box, so she used his and pretended that she was going to school! This was absolutely NOT OKAY with Ayden!! He said that "Zoe cannot go to school Mommy.....this is MY special day, not Zoe's!!!"

12:30 pm finally rolled around and we showed up at school!! Here is Ayden walking up to the building....

The first thing he has to do every day is find his name tag on the table....he can spot it right away!

Putting his backpack in his cubby....

Ready to go eat lunch....he looks not so sure about this whole preschool thing anymore!!

Really not so sure in this picture....this was when the little boy started crying because his mom was leaving....Ayden was concerned! Zoe was in the background pretending she was big enough for preschool!!

Zoe threw a fit since she didn't have a lunch like all the other kids!

The classroom.....as I was leaving.....I tried to just keep walking, but I had to turn around and look back!

Parents were filing in and out of the door, some kids were crying as their moms walked out of the room, some kids looked frightened, some were happily eating their lunch. As I sat Ayden down and helped him get his lunch set up, I all of a sudden felt like I didn't want to leave him! It's funny I felt that way because earlier in the day I told my mom I'm not sure why some moms are so sad when there kids go off to school! I told her...."I can't wait for the break!!!" I was wrong....I was so sad to leave him!! And I thought about him for the entire 3 1/2 hours he was gone! I may have enjoyed my quiet time a little bit better if Zoe had taken a nap and not been so fussy....I guess she missed him too! I guess tomorrow is a new day! And we will see how that goes!

Ayden had a blast and he talked to me for about 30 minutes after I picked him up telling me everything that had happened.....he met new friends, a boy was crying cuz he missed his Mommy, he went potty all by himself but his teacher had to help him pull up his pants because "that's just hard to do Mommy" (and when I asked if he washed his hands, he said, "yes that sink was icky and dirty"), he learned about circles, he got to use paint, he liked his teacher and kept saying, "what is her name again Mommy?" (Miss Amanda), he likes 5 girls in his class (the girls definitely outnumber the boys in this class....there are only 3 boys total), he sang songs, learned about the letter A "my name", and the list goes on and on and on!! I loved hearing all his stories!

The biggest story came when I asked him if he got in trouble and he went on and on giving me bits and bits of information.....this is what I got out of it!!! Something about during play time, when they were out on the playground, Ayden was swinging on the swings "and being wild" and saw a bell on the table (the one they ring to tell the kids play time is over)......he ran over and rang the bell! A "grandma teacher" (I am assuming this means an older lady) came up to him and told him "NO" and that "only teachers ring the bell". He couldn't play anymore and had to sit down on the playground for a minute. I told him, "uh oh....you need to remember next time that only teachers can ring the bell" and he said, "yeah, maybe later I can be a teacher when I get big." It was pretty funny and totally cute to hear him tell the story! I love this age when they can tell you EVERYTHING that happened when they are not in your sight! It's nice that I don't have to wonder anymore what happens when I am not around!

We continued to celebrate Ayden's special day! He got the "You Are Special Today" red plate at dinner time! This was a tradition in my family whenever something new or special happened to one of us! Ayden loved it! After dinner we went to get ice cream!

It was a great day....we love preschool!! =)

We have discovered a new family hobby......

It consists of Mommy and Daddy getting exercise.....lots of it!!! This is nothing new to Jeremiah! Biking is one of his favorite hobbies and usually means that most Saturday mornings he is gone on a bike ride. Well, I decided being stuck at home with the kids on a Saturday morning while Jeremiah is out burning 2,000 calories is no fun! So I decided.....if you can't beat em, join em!! We took our first family bike ride last weekend to the beach.....I couldn't believe I survived 25 miles on a bike!! I decided if I can go to the beach and burn 1,500 calories, I could like this! We've only gone two weeks in a row now, but it is addicting and I could definitely see more family bike rides in our future!!

Jeremiah getting the trailer hooked up and ready to go.....

The kids.....excited for a wild ride!!

Ayden and Zoe doing what they do best.....being entertained watching a favorite movie!!

This is my view most of the time.....good thing Jeremiah has to pull the extra 75 pounds of cargo behind him.....it's the only thing that gives me a little bit of an advantage on him!

{I sCrEaM yOu ScReAm.....}

One of my favorite things about the summer.....I don't remember the ice cream man ever coming through my neighborhood as a kid, but it definitely reminds me of my childhood for some reason! And this ice cream truck that frequents our neighborhood now is extra fun because it is the same ice cream man that Jeremiah would get ice cream from in his neighborhood growing up years ago!

Ayden was super excited about his Spiderman popsicle.....

We stayed outside talking to neighbors and letting the kids play until dark....we decided it was time to come in for a bath when we looked at our little munchkins.....

Oh my!!! We decided that an ice cream sandwich would probably be a better choice over a popsicle next time the ice cream man comes around!

Yah! Summer is over and we can use our Disneyland passes again!!! On Friday, I took the kids to Disneyland by myself for the first time. We have always gone with friends in the past, but this was my most favorite trip to Disneyland to date!

Reason #1 this was my favorite trip....we got to the park on a weekday, first thing in the morning to see the doors open at 9 am!

Reason #2 this was my favorite trip.....the lines were non-existent, we didn't have to rub shoulders with strangers as we walked by, no waiting in line for an hour to meet Mickey Mouse and we actually got to go on whatever we wanted to!! It was the best! Since we got there so early, we "almost literally" ran right in, while I asked Ayden what ride he wanted to go on first! We showed up at Buzz Lightyear and waited a whopping 5 minutes!!! Ahhhhh!!!!

Reason #3 this was my favorite trip.....I took the single stroller instead of the double stroller! Wow, what a difference that made! The double stroller is nice that it holds both kids, but not so nice when it comes to manuevering through crowds of people and walking long distances! And we didn't even really miss it! Ayden found a nice cozy spot in the basket of the single stroller!

Reason #4 this was my favorite trip.....the LEASH!!! Yes, the leash that I SWORE I would never be caught dead using on one of my kids in public!! I know, I know....I in fact DID say that....a number of times!! But that was before I ALMOST lost my 2 year old in a CROWDED Disneyland one BUSY spring day! And since then, I decided that I didn't care how foolish I looked.....better safe (and foolish looking) than sorry....especially when you have a toddler that is not scared by the thought of being lost or running away and hiding from Mommy in a big, strange place!! It actually worked out GREAT! Ayden loves wearing his monkey "backpack" and he loves to pretend he is a dog and have me pulling him around everywhere!

Reason #5 this was my favorite trip.....we went from ride to ride, did everything we wanted to do, saw everything we wanted to see.....and we were out of there and on our way home by 1 pm...before we melted away in the sun....with 2 very tired, napping kids!!

We got to meet Mickey Mouse! This was our first time meeting Mickey Mouse because we never want to wait in the line for over an hour to do so! Ayden loved it....shook his hand and gave him a hug....and Zoe loved to see him too, but she didn't want to get too close!

And we also got to meet Goofy! Ayden pushed his way through the line and butted in while these two boys were trying to get a picture with Goofy. I quickly got out my camera and snapped away before the Disney staff person asked me to kindly get my child and wait in line! Oops!!!

Zoe was a little unsure on some of the rides....she wasn't sure if she was supposed to be scared or enjoying herself! Her face says it all...

Ayden on the other hand enjoyed EVERY second....

The two things that they could both agree on was the carousel and the fountain....

It was a HOT day, so we enjoyed taking a break to cool off at the fountain....

Honestly.....one of the best days I've ever had with my two little ones! Can't wait to do it again!

{hEaVeN....in CaLi}

If there is such thing as Heaven in California....I am convinced it is called Thrifty Ice Cream!! Not sure what it is that sets it apart from other ice cream, but there is just something about it! It's my very very very favorite ice cream.....that I missed so much for five years when we were away in Utah! I grew up right down the street from a Thrifty store (which is now Rite Aid).....and it was conveniently passed when my good friend Angela and I walked home from elementary and junior high school every day. We would stop often.....and get a single scoop of ice cream for 25 cents! I remember one day when I was about 8, 9 or 10 years old and my mom was trying to take me to the salon to get a PERM!!!! Yes....a perm!! Poor me!!! I fought and fought her on the idea....I did not want one. She then told me that if I got a perm, she would buy me a TRIPLE SCOOP of ice cream at Thrifty!! What?!?!?! Really....a TRIPLE scoop??? "Fine, I guess so", I replied as I turned my head and smiled! That should tell you how good this ice cream is and how much I love it!!

Anyway, you can pretty much always find 2 containers of ice cream in my freezer....Mint Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Malted Krunch (a Thrifty original)!! But this afternoon, we went to the same Rite Aid I grew up by and enjoyed a nice refreshing treat! I am creating monsters already....my kids love the ice cream!

Luckily I don't have any pictures of the DOUBLE SCOOP I snarfed down in the front seat along with the kids!

And now, a note to my kids.......I promise kids, I may bribe you here and there with a scoop or two of ice cream as you grow older, but I will NEVER make you get a perm!!
